She nodded, eyes downcast. “I’m going to be honest with you, Amelia. Your work so far this year has been less than satisfactory. At this rate you’re on track to fail English altogether.”

Amelia’s heart sunk. She knew that she’d been doing badly, but failing the entire course? What would her parents say?

“Please Mr Brown, I can’t fail. My parents will kill me!” She looked up at the teacher beseechingly, her eyes welling with tears. “Isn’t there anything I can do? Extra papers, or a make-up test?”

Mr Brown pushed his chair back and stood up suddenly, causing Amelia to jump. The man’s eyes hardened as he rounded his desk and slowly approached the distressed schoolgirl. Standing above Amelia granted Mr Brown an excellent view of her cleavage and he didn’t attempt to hide his stare.

“Do you really think you could pass a make-up test? Every piece of work you have submitted this year has been dismal.”

Amelia choked back a sob, and Mr Brown took a step closer. He raised his hand to her cheek and stroked it softly. Amelia froze.

“You’re a stupid, stupid girl.” his hand slowly moved downwards, gently brushing the schoolgirl’s chin and neck. “There’s no way you would be able to redeem yourself academically, but… Perhaps we can come to some sort of arrangement.”
